                                                     ROXY JOY                                            JUNIPER I

Mossy Creek Aussies, specializes in "working" family dogs; they become "family members" and are still able to have a working life on the ranch or farm. We imprint on every puppy born here, in our home. We have seen how an Aussie that is incorporated into their human family can be exceptional in their work as a herding dog and an invaluable family member. Our Aussies have good on/off switches, so to speak :)  They are active when they need to be and they can come in and fall asleep on the floor and enjoy a family life. We only have puppies a couple times a year and maybe a Christmas litter. We are by no means a puppy mill and we test our breeding dogs for genetic diseases. We also require that our puppies new owners come here to pick them up. We want you to see where your new ranch hand :) or family member has grown up :) We do not ship our puppies. But, raw fed puppies make the absolute best travelers, ever!

We breed Aussies that are perfect for family life, but are able to do many other jobs as well.  Make sure that you find an Aussie with a  compatible energy level and mind set for your family.  Feeding your puppy an appropriate diet will also help with his energy level.  Dogs are primarily, carnivores and their bodies are designed to digest raw meat and bones and to a lesser degree, raw vegetables and raw fruits.  Feeding dogs a raw diet is very economical.  It is less expensive than feeding them dry food every day.  And so much healthier!   Raw diets have lots of water in them and range from 18 to 21%, all usable protein, instead of the 28-30%, unnatural protein found in dry food.   We also give our dogs a NuVet Plus vitamin every day, just to make sure they are getting the best possible nutrition.  We do have a dry food (please, always reconstitute with equal parts water :) that we recommend for people who just can't feed raw or for supplementing the raw diet.  That is "Life's Abundance" holistic health food.  This food has never had a recall.  It is made in small batches and not stored in trucks and warehouses.  This food is all human grade ingredients, made in a human grade facility and shipped, one month fresh, to your door.  This is also a very economical way to feed your Aussie :)  It is a compacted, nutrient dense food and less is needed for each feeding.   An easier alternative to raw, for those people who can't feed a raw diet.    Click Here for Life's Abundance website  to read more about this alternative to raw feeding and also to place your order...

A raw diet creates a solid, healthy puppy and not fat :)  People are always astonished at their heaviness as they grow and their obvious good health.  Our puppies grow strong and healthy eating real, raw and grain-free food.  Go to our "SPECIES-APPROPRIATE DIET" page to read more about Mossy Creek's natural Aussie diet.  Many of the successful show breeders have changed to feeding their dogs and puppies this way.  It is very cost effective, especially if you only have one or two dogs!  You will never have to have your dogs teeth scaled again.  Their teeth will stay clean as long as they eat real food--meat and bones (only raw :). We also recommend using an enzymatic dog toothpaste and a finger brush. Most of the meat today has been sterilized with irradiation to kill bacteria. This also kills the live enzymes. Those are necessary to keep your dogs teeth stain-free. So add the enzymes back in :)

Another thing that people see here is that our dogs do not bark.  Our Aussies are easy to teach not to bark and they respect that.  We teach them to bark only as part of their working/herding job or as an alarm and then to stop barking.  That means that their puppies are not "barkers" either.   And that is just what we hear :) You can teach an Australian shepherd not to bark or to bark; whatever their job requires. They are attentive and ready to learn what you require them to learn.

Even though Mossy Creek raises the calmer, family dog and working oriented Aussie, they still enjoy and excel at agility and obedience training. We highly recommend that our puppies join puppy classes and obedience classes when they are young. Agility classes come latter after their bodies have matured and their hips have set. That is usually between 18 and 20 months old. Please, only natural gentle exercising. No high jumping activities; the landing is too jarring on their immature hips and joints.

We have 11 1/2 acres of room for our Australian shepherds to run and exercise in.  We take pride in our quality working and gentle herding and family dogs and sometimes, have Australian shepherd puppies for sale. Our puppies come from NSDR working and herding lines and some ASCA/AKC show lines in their backgrounds.  This combination creates a gorgeous, very smart Aussie, with attentive energy, just right for an active family.  Our Aussies adore children and family life and become family members themselves.  We also specialize in producing all four of the accepted Aussie colors and patterns.  That is, the beautiful blue merles, the red merles, the black tri's and the red tri's.

We embrace a "holistic" approach to raising our dogs and puppies. We incorporate natural methods of health care, such as Homeopathic medicine, cold laser techniques (a holistic, non-invasive healing technique), natural nutrition for immune system building and newborn imprinting. Our puppies also listen to a desensitizing CD their whole upbringing here. They also listen to relaxing music, family sounds and TV sounds so that your home will be as familiar as their home was here. Although our Australian shepherd puppies are given an initial immunity by vaccine when they are several-weeks-old, we hold to a "minimal vaccination" schedule and use a Parvo/Distemper vaccine only.  We recommend that you never give your Aussie Lyme disease vaccines, corona or bordatella (Kennel cough) vaccines.  We use natural feeding practices such as "raw food" and holistic dog food (Life's Abundance), for a healthy, grain-free or healthy grain (minimal), beginning in life :) We use NUVET PLUS CANINE vitamins for our Aussies.  A very high quality, high antioxidant  vitamin, but affordable for everyone.  A link is provided at the bottom of this page for your convenience in ordering this fabulous supplement. There is also a new page to the left, dedicated to NUVET PLUS vitamins. These vitamins are very complimentary to a raw diet.  You will find raw food recipes on the "Species-appropriate" page and the "Puppy Diet" page.

Our Australian shepherd puppies and dogs are a "cut above"! It makes a big difference to  raise puppies in your home, having them interacting and "imprinting" to people, cats, their Aussie pack and children from such a young age.  Socializing starts early this way, actually, as newborns :)  Our puppies are never alone.  Even if they are starting their crate training, they are still with other Aussies in their crates too.

All of our Aussie puppies are raised in our home and never kenneled.  They are born in our whelping room and raised with us until they are about 4-weeks-old and then they move to our indoor puppy room, with a "puppy gate" to the kitchen area.  The indoor kennel has a "doggie door" to the outside fenced in puppy area.  Our dogs enjoy a "dog pack" life here at Mossy Creek.  At four-weeks-old, the babies begin actively socializing with the rest of the dog pack, outside.  They know everyone already from their visits while still in their whelping box :) This is such an excellent beginning.  Our Australian shepherd puppies learn manners, respect for others, rules, and a host of other important lessons to begin a well adjusted family life and a great beginning to their herding/working responsibilities.  All of our dogs and puppies interact daily amongst themselves (Mossy Creek's Aussie pack), with children, adults, chickens, cats and are introduced to large animals like horses and a donkey, too.

This is a celebration of happiness and love...

Our Australian shepherd puppies start learning how to potty outside from very young.   We fence off most of the puppy room to just their sleeping quarters  close to the puppy door.  This encourages them to potty outside instead of messing up their sleeping area and makes potty training a snap for their new owners!

Our Australian shepherd puppies become happy, well-balanced individuals, way before they leave here for their new homes.  When you come to visit here, you will see that they are not begging to be "saved" or "unhappy" at all! That is the goal, here at Mossy Creek.  We strive to create a puppy that is ready to join right in your family, with no previous "issues" for you to deal with. Our puppies are ready and willing to start their new life with you!  These are the benefits of being raised naturally, in a "pack".

Riley, our best babysitter, is teasing the big puppies
                           with a carrot :)

We care very much about the homes our Australian shepherd puppies go into.  We do not condone "kennel-dogs" or outside dogs.  We raise our puppies to live inside, with their owners and to take their working life and herding responsibilities with respect and vigor. Being raised in their pack of Aussies, they learn respect for other dogs, other animals and especially, people. When they are fed a species-appropriate diet, your puppy will have no odor!  Life's Abundance fed puppies and dogs, also have no odor :)  His/her fur will be beautiful, their teeth will be clean and they will be a joy to have right in your home, with you.   Dogs on a natural diet grow just the right coat they need; no "extra baggage".  They will grow a winter coat and then they will shed out to a shiny summer trim.  Beautiful!

Our Australian shepherd puppies are ready for their new "forever" homes at 7-8-weeks of age. Seven-weeks-old is a wonderful age for bonding with people.   This is when you should pick up your puppy.  Our puppies grow to be self assured and confident from being raised in a "pack family" and satisfied from eating the way they should; (mostly) raw :)!  Don't forget to go to our feeding pages, "Speices-Appropriate Diet" and "Puppy Diet".

Sometimes we have an older Australian shepherd puppy or two for adoption.   Don't pass those true little, (and maybe not so little), gems up!  We will occasionally keep a puppy back in hopes of adding one trait or another to our line and it doesn't work out, for no fault of theirs.  Or maybe we will just have to downsize!   These puppies are always full of love and life, just waiting to be a part of a family :)
